PPI huge power transformers would deliver 96MW to users upon the arrival of FGN Power Company. - Feed9ja

Additional 96 megawatts (MW) would be delivered to consumers in Nigeria with the advent of FGN Power Company-Presidential Power Initiative, PPI, giant power transformers.

In accordance with the PPI, which is being implemented by the FGN Power Company and intends to increase Nigeria's supply to 7,000 MW, 11,000 MW, and 25,000 MW in phases one, two, and three, the Siemens Energy-produced transformers landed at the Lagos Port about a week ago.

However, yesterday's inspections by Vanguard revealed that the corporation was working with the necessary government bodies to arrange their release.

The two transformers would be erected at Ajah, Lagos, and Apo in Abuja, according to a top industry figure who confirmed the plan. This would improve distribution to consumers in both locations.

The two (2) power transformers, each rated at 60MVA and 132/33 kV, would be installed in the Ajah and Apo substations, he said. One power transformer will be sent to Lagos' Ajah Substation. The second will be sent to Abuja's Apo Substation.

"Ajah is to replace a 60 MVA transformer that is outdated, inefficient, and near the end of its useful life. It was only using half of its potential. They will improve distribution to local consumers. To improve distribution, an additional 60 MVA transformer will take the place of a 45 MVA, 132/33kV transformer.

The two (2) power transformers will release a combined 120MVA, or 96MW capacity, of electricity for usage in those areas' homes and businesses, the official continued.

As a source within the organization stated, "Unfortunately, the clearing procedure is not within our control," it was unclear when the clearing process would be finished. All we can do is wait.

Although Engr. Abubakar Aliyu, the Minister of Power, could not be reached yesterday, he had asked Siemens Executive Management to speed up the production of power transformers and mobile substations to increase Nigerians' access to energy.

As a result, the first two energy transformers were produced and will be supplied as part of a quick wins plan once the Factory Acceptance Tests, or FAT, were successfully completed.

Engineer Abubakar Aliyu, the Minister of Power, had said, "I am thrilled that the Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) were successful. The electricity sector's transmission/distribution interface problems will be greatly helped by the transformers. Mr. President, the Federal Government of Nigeria is steadfast in its commitment to enhancing Nigerians' access to dependable electricity. Additionally, I have faith that the Presidential Power Initiative (PPI) will accomplish its goals of providing electricity to homes and businesses around the nation.

"The FAT was conducted at the Siemens Energy High-Voltage Transformer Lab in Trento, Italy, with participation from the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), the Power Transformers' end-user, and the FGN Power Company, the client.

"The FAT seeks to evaluate the equipment's compliance with the functional requirements and verify that the necessary functional requirements are in accordance with the International Electro-Technical Commission (IEC) standards," according to the FAT.

Sean Manley, the project director for Siemens Energy's Presidential Power Initiative, said in a similar vein: "The Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) of this important equipment represents a major milestone in the progress of the Presidential Power Initiative" (PPI). In order to improve the availability of millions of Nigerians to steady and reliable electricity, we take great effort to ensure that our equipment adheres to the highest standards.

The factory acceptance test (FAT) was successful, and the equipment will be delivered and subsequently commissioned in September, according to Mr. Kenny Anuwe, managing director of FGN Power Company. Since this is the first large delivery of equipment under the PPI, I am really happy.
