A lawsuit attempting to force the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to zone its presidential candidate nomination to the South East Geopolitical Zone of the nation has been dismissed by the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
The lawsuit was dismissed by the court on the grounds that it lacked jurisdiction to hear it in a majority decision read by Justice Adamu Jauro.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, Cosmos Ndukwe, a PDP presidential candidate and a former deputy speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, filed the lawsuit against his party.
He had asked for a decree that would force the PDP to adhere to its zoning and rotational policies.
Ndukwe expressly
asked the court to issue an injunction compelling the PDP to choose its presidential candidate in the South East Geopolitical Zone.
Justice Jauro ruled that the lawsuit was not justiciable, citing the fact that political parties must nominate their own members for office.
